About personal information protection

In accordance to the laws related to personal information held by governmental agencies, anyone can request the disclosure of their own personal information (retained personal information) from the Immigration Services Agency.

Furthermore, anyone can request a revision if the details of the disclosed retained personal information are thought to be inaccurate. They can also request a suspension of use of the information if it is thought to have been acquired, used, or provided by improper means.

In accordance with the principles of the law, the Immigration Services Agency has established the "Immigration Services Agency Retained Personal Information Protection and Management Guidelines - PDF (in Japanese)."PDF The Agency shall strive to protect the rights and interests of individuals by appropriately handling personal information.

In addition to following the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act, private companies must comply with the guidelines developed by the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) and strive to protect personal information.

Provision of anonymized personal information held by an administrative organ

The Immigration Services Agency has finished accepting proposals for anonymized personal information held by administrative organs for FY2020–21 (Reiwa 2). The Agency will notify the public when details have been decided for the FY2021–22 (Reiwa 3) solicitation of proposals.
