Regarding the denial of landing permission to prevent the spread of COVID-19

At midnight (JST) on September 4, 2022, all designations of areas as subject to denial of landing permission were lifted.

Visa exemption measures had been temporarily suspended due to border measures put in place to limit the spread of COVID-19. Visa exemptions have been resumed as of midnight on October 11, 2022 (JST) for countries/regions with visa exemptions.

Regarding revisions to border enforcement measures

On September 26, 2022, the government announced new measures for border enforcement (34).

Based on those same measures, from midnight (JST) on October 11, 2022, foreign nationals applying for new entry into Japan that falls under items 1 through 3 (as listed below) will not need the accepting person/entity in Japan (see Note 1) to submit an application via the "Entrants, Returnees Follow-up System (ERFS)."

1. Entries relating to short-term business trips (less than three months)

2. Entries relating to tourism

3. Entries relating to long-term stays

(Note 1) The person receiving the entrant should belong to the company/organization that extended the business/entertainment invitation.
