Cross-field policies to ensure proper execution of tests

[Important Information] - Eligibility is being expanded for examinations being taken within Japan (from April 1, 2020 onwards)

Examination candidates who wished to take tests within Japan were previously limited to mid to long-term residents, and those who had held mid to long-term residency in the past. This has now been expanded to include anyone residing in Japan with a valid status of residence.
As a result, examination candidates who have been mid to long-term residents in the past may now be able to enter the country with a "Temporary Visitor" status of residence in order to take their tests.

Eligibility for taking tests in Japan on or after April 1, 2020
Anyone with a status of residence may take the test.
It is possible for those in Japan with a "Temporary Visitor" status of residence to take the test (even without a history of mid to-long-term residency).
Those who do not possess a status of residence (foreign nationals overstaying their authorized period of stay, etc.) will still be unable to take the test.

* However, even if a person passes the test, the Immigration Services Agency cannot guarantee that the "Specified Skilled Worker" status of residence will be granted. Even if a person who passed the test applies for the issuance of a Certificate of Eligibility or permission to change their status of residence, please understand that there is no guarantee that they will be issued a Certificate of Eligibility or granted permission to change their status of residence.

Eligibility for taking tests in Japan until March 31, 2020
People who are not qualified to take tests in Japan.

  1. Those who are not mid to long-term residents or who have not been mid to long-term residents in the past
  2. Students who quit or were expelled from school
  3. Technical interns who disappeared
  4. Those with a "Designated Activities (Refugee Application)" status of residence
  5. Those currently staying in Japan with a status of residence that requires the preparation of a plan for conducting activities, such as technical intern training
