(Note) There are no automated gates at Narita International Airport Terminal 3, Haneda Airport Terminal 2, or Chubu Centrair International Airport Terminal 2.
The immigration examination area at the airport may become crowded when going on overseas business trips or vacations. At times like this, it is much easier to undergo immigration procedures by using the automated gates.
The automated gates provide a way to automatically conduct immigration procedures by verifying your identity via your passport and fingerprints.
It can be used by following the instructions on the display. You can register to use this system immediately at the airport on the day of your flight.

When the immigration examination area is crowded, you can use the automated gate to smoothly and speedily undergo immigration procedures.
By following the instructions and simple steps on the display, you can undergo immigration procedures.

Your fingerprints will be verified. Place your registered fingers (on both hands) on the scanner and gently push down.

User registration can be done at the airport on the same day as your flight. Complete the application at the registration counter and, along with your passport, hand it to the attendant at the registration counter. (Foreign nationals must also show their residence card.)
Your fingerprints will be recorded during user registration.
The registration process usually takes about five minutes from the start of the application.
There are no handling fees to register or use the automated gates.
Once user registration is complete, you can use the automated gates from that same day.
You can also use automated gates at airports besides the airport you registered at.

(Note 1) About passport stamps
Passports will not be stamped.
Those who want stamps should, after passing through the automated gate, speak to a staff member at the examination office before boarding the aircraft if they are departing, or before undergoing customs examinations if they are returning (landing examination).
Please be aware that you will be unable to receive a passport stamp after the times stated above. For those who require entry (return) / exit records, please submit a request for disclosure of entry (return) / exit records. (You will be taken to the disclosure request guide page.)
However, in cases where proof of immigration is urgently required, please submit an inquiry to the Regional Immigration Services Bureau (see this page for the outline of the Immigration Services Agency) at which you underwent the immigration procedures.
Entry (return) / exit records may be required for procedures in cases other than those listed below. Please make sure in advance that the records are not necessary before proceeding to the gate.
