The status of issuance of Certificates of Eligibility for the "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" status of residence for employment at a Japanese company in 2018 (Heisei 30)

In 2018 (Heisei 30), 41,510 foreign nationals were issued a Certificate of Eligibility for the "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" status of residence for employment at a Japanese company, a 38.1% increase compared to the previous year.

  1. In 2018 (Heisei 30), the number of foreign nationals who were issued a Certificate of Eligibility for the "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" status of residence to be employed at a Japanese company and utilize their professional expertise and skills was 41,510, an increase of 11,445 persons (+38.1%) compared to last year.
  2. The number of people who were issued Certificates of Eligibility by nationality/region was: (1) Socialist Republic of Vietnam at 9,927; (2) People's Republic of China at 8,209; (3) Republic of Korea at 4,606; (4) Republic of India at 3,341; and (5) Republic of China (Taiwan) at 2,316. Asian countries accounted for 84.8% of the total, followed by North America at 6.6% and Europe at 6.2%.
  3. The number of people who were issued Certificates of Eligibility by job was: technological development (information processing) 9,400 (16.5%); translation/interpretation 7,746 (13.6%); construction 5,698 (10.0%); and technological development (other than information processing) 5,468 (9.6%). (Note) Duplicates were recorded and included in calculations when multiple items were checked.
